Humor and Healing after 9/11
The Doctor's In...

Greetings from “Dr. Cue”® and “Ms. Cue!! We pray all is well with each person reading this month’s article. As we try to journey forward in our billiard interests, our hearts and sympathies go out to all those directly affected by the horrific attack on America, our freedoms, and personal lives.
Since Marty and I left for our Fall tour, we have witnessed an unbelievable display of patriotic and courageous images of U.S. flags, plus numerous red, white, and blue ribbons, banners, and signs. Homes, businesses, vehicles of every type, pedestrians, trees, mailboxes, fences, natural stone formations, and much more show a bonded unit of “what we are all about”.
After my return trip in early September from Kiev, Ukraine for the European Championship of “Artistic Pool” (professional skill level), I received words of encouragement and solidarity from those I had the personal blessing of meeting while there. I knew firsthand that our pain and experience had impacted many friends around the world. I am sure each of you have experienced other such links from many people…standing with us in our ongoing battle for justice and continued liberty for all.
This article is difficult to write, and I have had reservations in the “normal” style and humorous presentation of a “Dr. Cue”
® show. Our tour is progressing, with a new and renewed energy inside to treat others with compassion, sincerity, and expression of what America and our freedoms allow us to experience each day.
There is one thing, though, that I have discovered in my demonstrations, which, in some small way, helps to heal, relieve, and/or sooth our minds, bodies, and spirit. I have seen it before, but not necessarily with such an impact. As most of you know, “humor” is a vital ingredient to my show routines. It acts as a “tint” and/or “accent” to the skill presentation.
We have been told to get back to “normal”, but there seems to be no “pat” procedure to this directive. Each of us can do our part in this challenge. We should continue to take the “serious” challenge of competition, but with each defeat or victory, we should consider the importance of “just being able to play” in a deeper and more focused manner. It is vital, I believe, to see the “humor” in our play, it is essential to see the special meaning that billiards has to mold friendships, and it is critical that we all respond to our fellow players with a new, caring, and sharing attitude. We should all learn to win in humble gracefulness, and lose with a courageous demeanor…congratulating our opponent(s) and wishing them well. We have been given a “great” gift to steward over – billiards in all its forms. Live each day just enjoying the moment of a rolling object ball…wherever its travel might end. May each of you Rack Up A Victory in your game and life!! Best victories and rolls, until next time when…
